Rescuers free dozens of people from severely flooded Guangfu

The flooding has left many striking images of rescuers in action. From carrying elderly residents on their backs, to consoling stranded children, the rescuers are working tirelessly to locate survivors and take them to shelter. Among the teams at work is a group of 23 from the Pingtung Fire Department, which came to the disaster area with 8 vehicles and 7 rubber dinghies.
Guangfu have been submerged under a vast ocean of muddy water. A man wades through the flood, as a leaky gas tank drifts along in the current.
With long poles and ropes, rescuers managed to bring the man to safety.
Rescuers searched nearly 200 households through the night and rescued a young child, whom they sheltered in a plastic box. Parents were grateful as can be.
Another muddy rescuer was seen consoling a young boy on the rescue dinghy.
Rescuers struggle to push the float through the mud. They are members of a special team from Pingtung helping out in Hualien, trying to free trapped residents any way they can.
On their backs, they carry elderly residents trapped in their homes.
The Matai’an Creek barrier lake burst on Tuesday afternoon, causing flash floods that have devastated Guangfu. A few hours later, Pingtung Fire Department rescuers arrived at the scene and got down to work.
Search efforts are focused on Fozu Street, Guangfu Road and Dunhou Road. The rescuers worked through the night in an exhausting mission, swimming to nearly submerged homes and refusing to give up hope of finding survivors.
As of 8 a.m. on Wednesday, 32 people had been found and evacuated to shelter. Rescue operations continue, in a race against time to save trapped people and take them to safety.

花蓮光復嚴重淹水 屏東特搜挺進救災助32人脫困

花蓮堰塞湖溢流，週二下午湍急的泥水，直接衝入光復鄉，第一時間很多人根本來不及逃生，被捲入水中，有人能自行游泳逃生，有人則在水面載浮載沉，場面險象環生。屏東縣消防局週二傍晚也立即調派搜救人員，人車裝備一共8車、7艘船艇，共23人，挺進光復鄉協助救災。
街道成了一片汪洋，颱風大水淹過花蓮光復市區，民眾冒險划水過街，後方卻有一桶疑似正在洩氣的瓦斯桶。
眾人出動長竿，還有繩索，幸好這名男子已經順利脫困。
晚間救難人員搜索近200戶人家，順利救出一名幼童，用一旁大水桶接著，家長在一旁連忙道謝。
另外，也有全身淤泥的搜救隊員，抱著一名男孩，搭著救生艇。
而其他搜救隊員，則徒步在爛泥中推著救生艇，艱難的使船前進。這群屏東特種搜救隊員，挺進花蓮光復鄉，以涉水或是泳渡的方式協助災民脫困。
搜救隊進入民宅，揹著受困的長輩涉水脫困。
花蓮縣馬太鞍溪堰塞湖，23號下午發生溢流情況，洪水淹入光復鄉，造成嚴重災情，屏東消防局立即派員趕至花蓮協助，眾人晚間一到現場，馬上就投入救災。
搜索任務，主要集中在光復鄉市區佛祖街、光復、敦厚路一帶，漏夜搜索下，隊員聲音中充滿疲憊，還是游泳來到幾乎被滅頂的民宅，不放棄任何希望。
直到早上八點，已經協助32名民眾撤離至收容所，目前現場救援行動仍持續進行中，要跟時間搶命，救出更多受困災民。
