Pingtung fresh sashimi competitive with Hokkaido fish markets

Many Taiwanese people love eating fresh sashimi, so much so that when they travel to Japan, they make a point to visit fish markets. One tourist to Hokkaido said he had six slices of salmon sashimi, all seven or eight centimeters long, for just 700 yen, or NT$143. Yet in Pingtung’s Huaqiao Fish Market, 10 slices of salmon sashimi are NT$200, even cheaper than in Hokkaido. There’s no need to travel far to find delicious, affordable sashimi.

A tourist to Hokkaido recently shared that he had six slices of fresh salmon sashimi at a local fish market for just 700 yen, or NT$143, and they were all seven or eight centimeters long. He remarked that seafood in Taiwan seemed comparatively expensive, which sparked an online debate.

It has a rich flavor, and it’s cheap. One word: value. Two words: super cheap.

The sashimi chefs here at Huaqiao Fish Market said that Taiwan and Japan both use imported salmon. Here, 10 slices are NT$200, while the richer, fatty salmon belly is NT$200 for seven slices. With prices like that, there’s no need to fly to Japan to enjoy affordable sashimi.

台灣人愛吃生魚片,不少人到日本旅遊,更會專程到當地市場嚐鮮,就有民眾分享,最近到北海道旅遊,在當地市場點了6片生鮭魚,要價700日圓,大約台幣143元,而且每片都有7、8公分長,讓他驚呼,相比之下,台灣海鮮真的貴。不過記者實際走一趟屏東東港的華僑市場,價目表上,鮭魚生魚片,10片200元,平均一片20元,根本比日本賣得還便宜。

俐落刀工,把鮭魚切成一片片厚切生魚片,這裡是屏東東港華僑市場,主打平價生魚片,吸引不少饕客專程前往嚐鮮。

實際詢問生魚片店家,台灣和日本相同,大多選用進口鮭魚,攤開價目表,華僑市場裡,鮭魚生魚片,10片200元,若是油質豐富的鮭魚肚生魚片,7片200元,平均一片20元有找,實在不用飛到日本享用。

"(以東港來講,鮭魚6片或者7、8公分長)也差不多在150元以內就可以了,想吃差不多價格的話,在台灣吃就好了,去日本吃鮭魚,那鮭魚台灣也有啊。"

鮭魚生魚片,在台灣、日本品嚐,各自有擁護者,台日的鮭魚價格,到底哪一邊算划算,也意外掀起話題。
