Food waste left outside Yushan lodge attracts martens

Hikers at Paiyun Lodge in Yushan recently spotted martens snacking on food waste outside the dining hall. They took a video and posted it online, reminding people not to leave food waste out in the open, as it can attract wild animals and pose a danger.
A yellow-throated marten happily gorges on food left on the table, unaware that it’s being watched. It jumps off and begins searching for more treats in a basket of food waste left on the ground. A hiker posted this video online, saying that the marten enjoyed an all-you-can-eat buffet outside Paiyun Lodge in Yushan.

We immediately let the lodge know that kitchen waste must be taken down the mountain every day. We also asked management to increase supervision.
Yellow-throated martens are a protected species in Taiwan as their numbers remain small, and they have been seen forging in mountains in the past. Now, attracted by food discarded outside, they lurk around Paiyun Lodge and have likely been seen by many hikers staying there.

We will double down on work to clean and maintain the environment. We also urge visitors not to feed wild animals in the mountains to avoid any conflict between humans and wildlife.
Yushan National Park said that it regularly informs hikers to bring all their trash down the mountain. Any food waste at Paiyun Lodge is normally carried down by contract workers. But this time, food was left out in the sun, attracting wild animals such as martens. To prevent the spread of rabies and maintain a clean, safe environment, park management has asked the lodge to strengthen supervision.

廚餘吃到飽! 黃喉貂現蹤玉山排雲山莊覓食

山友在玉山排雲山莊目擊，黃喉貂出沒，而且是狂嗑餐廳外的廚餘。山友拍下畫面，PO網呼籲相關單位注意，不該在露天曝曬或堆置廚餘垃圾，避免野生動物前來覓食，以免成為防疫破口。
無視有人正在近處拍攝，野生黃喉貂一下子吃桌上的廚餘，一下子又跳下桌，整籃曝曬在外的廚餘，挖呀挖，山友將畫面PO網，黃喉貂出沒在玉山塔塔加排雲山莊，直接在餐廳外開吃廚餘buffet吃到飽。

“已經立即請廠商，每日務必一定要將廚餘揹下山，我們也請山莊管理人員加強督導。”
黃喉貂為保育類物種，目前數量不多，以往出沒山間野嶺覓食時有所見。但現在卻是被曝曬在外的廚餘吸引過來，直接竄入登山客入住的排雲山莊，與人接觸的機會恐怕更頻繁。

“加強環境整潔，以及相關環境維護的工作。另外呼籲遊客進到山區，一定不要餵食野生動物，以免招來人畜衝突。”
玉管處方面表示，平時宣導山友將垃圾帶下山，在排雲山莊提供的飲食廚餘，通常都由外包廠商員工揹下山，這回廚餘在戶外瀝水晾曬，引來黃喉貂等野生動物啃食。防範狂犬病等疫情以及維護環境整潔，務必加強管理改善，以免成為防疫破口。
