A resident in Keelung had a close call at his home after his dehumidifier randomly caught on fire. The plastic appliance melted from the head, and its top half was black. Mr. Chen says the flames got dangerously close to his wardrobe, but fortunately he was able to put out the blaze quickly. It turns out that the model had been listed for recall years ago, but Mr. Chen wasn’t notified. Let’s hear more.

Dehumidifier caught fire
The fire was huge. My wardrobe was right next to it. I unplugged it and dragged the machine out. If my wardrobe had caught fire, the whole room would’ve been destroyed. I hope the maker will help restore the room like how our landlord wanted. My mother and I inhaled a lot of toxic fumes, so we’ll be seeing a doctor to get a report.

These kinds of appliances have tracking number at the back. It’s very clear that it says MT1316B, which is one of the models that were listed for recall by the Bureau of Standards due to defects. We’d like to remind everyone to spend a little time checking any dehumidifiers you have at home and see if they are listed for recall.
With colder weather approaching, experts say it’s best to turn off appliances such as dehumidifiers and heaters when not at home. And to stay extra safe, pay attention to recall notices for faulty products to avoid incidents like this one.

除濕機自燃? 基隆民宅火警 屋主:事後才知為"召回機種"

基隆一名陳先生，家中除濕機日前突然起火，機身被燒到融化、上半部焦黑，火勢一度逼近衣櫥，還好及時撲滅。事後才發現這個機型的除濕機，早在多年前就被列為召回機種，但陳先生說，他過去從未接到任何通知，只能無奈自求多福。

“那火非常大，旁邊又是衣櫥，所以我當下立刻就是把插頭拉掉，把機器拉出去，不然如果衣櫥也延燒起來的話，整個房間就...。希望那個(公司)能夠幫我們把這個房子，屋主也有講，就是恢復原狀，那像我跟我媽媽，吸入大量的有毒氣體，我們也會去看醫生開診斷報告”

“機型的背後都有一個像名牌的標示，像他這邊上面也是寫得很清楚，就是MT1316B，這個就是當時標準局，在做一個那個公告瑕疵除濕機回收的一個情形這，也是請大家可以多花一點時間，去了解你們家的除濕機，到底是不是需要做一個公告回收”
冬季用電器使用頻繁，專家提醒，只要人不在家，就務必關閉除濕機、電暖器等電器，同時多留意廠商是否曾發布召回訊息，才能避免意外發生。
