Tainan residents praise illegal roadside vegetable patch

An urban garden recently popped up alongside a newly built road in Tainan’s Yongkang District. As the space along the sidewalk had not yet been developed, someone nearby decided to plant fruits and vegetables there. Passersby couldn’t help but smile at the verdant bounty by the roadside.
The urban farm concept has been reinvented, this time with fruits and vegetables growing directly next to a sidewalk.

There’s something different about green patch alongside a newly built stretch of sidewalk in Tainan’s Yongkang District. That’s because it’s a small garden, complete with cherry tomatoes you can pick yourself.
Lots of fruits and vegetables for sale in the market can also be found here. Although it’s only a small plot, it’s expertly maintained. The private property on the other side also has winter melon and tomatoes climbing up a trellis, delighting everyone who passes by.

It’s well kept. Isn’t it pretty like this? It’s not affecting anything. It’s special.

Whatever you grow, you can harvest to eat yourself. It’s especially good when produce is expensive.
These vegetables were planted along a newly built road before the green space had a chance to be developed. But the happy little garden didn’t last long.

The resident will first be notified to clear it themself. If it isn’t done before the deadline, it will be cleared by the city.
Once the notice is issued, the garden will have to be torn down. Although it only lasted a few months, many residents found the vibrant garden full of fruits and vegetables to be better than a patch of only weeds.

台南又有都市裡的開心農場現蹤，這次是在永康區的一條新建道路上。人行道的綠化帶因為還沒有招標，附近廠家就在綠化帶上先種滿了各式蔬果，豐足茂盛的情況讓許多民眾看了，都不免露出了會心一笑。

“台南永康區這條新建道路上的綠化帶很不一樣，因為沿途被種滿了各式各樣的蔬菜，連小番茄都可以自己收成”
各式各樣的蔬果，賣場裡有的，這裡也出產了大部分，雖然只是小小的一條綠帶，不過小小菜園的規模，很是專業。路旁私人地上還有冬瓜，棚架上爬滿了番茄，讓路過民眾看了，也覺得很趣味。

“他會管理啊，比如像這樣不是很漂亮嗎，沒什麼影響啦，很特別啦”

“自己種剛好可以自己收自己吃，菜要是貴的時候也很不錯啦”
原來這是一條新開闢的道路，人行道綠帶，植栽工程還沒施作，民眾把握空窗，開闢農場，只是也開心不了多久。

“將先公告請民眾自行移除，若公告期滿未移除者，將由公部門強制移除”
等到公告一出，這片開心農場就得移除，雖然只有幾個月的開心期限，不過相比只有雜草的區域，各種蔬果生氣盎然的景象，還是比較賞心悅目。
