Wistron Medical Technology and Taipei 101 have jointly donated a lower limb exoskeleton robot worth NT$3 million to Keelung hospital to help with the rehabilitation of stroke patients, along with other people with mobility impairments. The results have been impressive. Mr. Lin in his 50s has been suffering the effects of a stroke for nine years. This technology has helped him regain his ability to move significantly.
With support from others, he starts walking, with the assistance of this machine. Mr. Lin, in his 50s, had a stroke nine years ago. He had usually relied on the likes of walking frames to walk. Now, after using this lower limb exoskeleton robot for a month and a half and training, his life has changed significantly.
Mr. Lin
Patient
First, my muscles have improved a lot. Second, I’ve improved a lot in climbing stairs. I can walk using my natural strength now.
After 12 sessions, twice a week for one hour each time, and with enhanced training in sitting, standing, half squats and walking, Mr. Lin showed improvement in his balance, walking, and climbing up and down stairs. This exoskeleton, valued at NT$3 million, was donated to Keelung Hospital by Wistron Medical Technology and Taipei 101. It is a boon for patients with reduced mobility.

Our original hope was to enable those in need, whether it’s due to degeneration, disease or simply aging, to regain their mobility.
Chiu Pei-lin
Deputy Keelung mayor
For most spinal patients and stroke patients, the most important thing about this machine is rehabilitation. After using it, he said that the speed of going downstairs can be increased by 50% and the speed of going upstairs can be increased by 67%, which is amazing.
Lin San-chi
Keelung Hospital superintendent
In the past, people had to travel long and tiring distances to other counties and cities because we didn’t have this equipment. Now that we do, we hope everyone who needs rehabilitation—and is actively working on it—can make full use of this device.
Keelung Hospital has become the first hospital in Taiwan to assist rehabilitation treatments with the use of this medical technology. With its support, patients are regaining their mobility.
