Legislature passes rules to protect worker’s rights of food deliverers

2026-01-06

And good news for food delivery workers. After six years in the works, the Legislative Yuan has finally passed a new law to protect the rights of food deliverers. It covers minimum pay standards and insurance. On the front of pay, delivery workers must make at least 1.25 times of the statutory minimum wage per hour.

That means that currently, their hourly salary must not be lower than NT$245, calculated from a base pay of NT$196. Moreover, workers must be paid at least NT$45 per individual order, and batch trips are no longer allowed. Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi had previously said that the rules could result in an increase of NT$20 in fees for consumers. Delivery platforms say they will communicate with consumers before the rules enter effect in six months.
