Kaohsiung shopping area covered in excessive graffiti

There are beautiful painted murals along the walls of Kaohsiung’s Yuzhu Shopping District, which tourists often photograph. But now graffiti in the area has spread from the walls to road signs, windows, and mirrors. The local village chief says it has been like this for a while, but new graffiti appears every so often, and it’s hard to know who’s responsible.
Graffiti spreads beyond the walls here, covering up windows with layers of painted images and words. It gives this once-quiet alley a very different atmosphere.

This was once a beautifully painted alley, with murals like this lotus pond. But now, not only are the walls covered in graffiti, but even the road signs have been vandalized.
The black-and-white graffiti covering this road sign makes it hard to read. At the alley entrance, the back of a notice sign and even a traffic mirror have also been vandalized. This is in Kaohsiung’s Yuzhu Shopping District, which many young people and students frequent for its affordable clothing. The local village chief says they originally commissioned a young artist to paint murals, but then graffiti gradually started appearing.

It’s hard to know when they come and go. They’re good at this. They paint and then run off. This has happened many times, for a long while. There’s still new graffiti happening all the time. It’s hard to catch them. They might not be from around here.

The signs warning people not to graffiti don’t seem to scare them off. This well-known shopping district has been totally transformed, and locals worry it could affect tourism.

高雄玉竹商圈有一條巷子，原本有些許像是蓮池潭等等精美的彩繪圖畫，吸引觀光客打卡拍照，不過現在不只牆面佈滿塗鴉，就連路牌、反光鏡也都遭殃，里長說，這個情況已經很久了，但陸續也都會出現新的塗鴉，也不知道到底是誰畫的。
不只牆面布滿各種塗鴉，連一旁透明玻璃門窗，也變得不太透明了，放眼望去，各式圖樣層層堆疊，讓原本寧靜的巷道，多了一股壓迫感。

文衡一路的巷弄路牌，黑白色塗鴉覆蓋，都快看不清，走到巷口，反光鏡、告示牌後方也沒放過，這裡是位在高雄的玉竹商圈，平價服飾密集，吸引許多年輕人和學生聚集，里長說，當初找了本土的年輕畫家來幫忙畫圖，但陸續卻出現一些不知名的胡亂塗鴉，而且還愈來愈多。

“出入讓你抓不到時間啦，他們很厲害，畫畫就走掉了，這已經好幾次，好久，好久，現在也還有新的圖案一直再來，你說要去抓他很難，他不一定是本地的人”

“有時候會增加一些啦，有時候突然瞄到，欸，怎麼好像又多一個圖案出來了”
明明就張貼了請勿塗鴉的警告，但塗鴉客似乎沒在怕，知名商圈巷弄變成這副模樣，不僅不太美觀，也恐怕影響觀光意願。
