Earlier this year, the International Air Transport Association introduced restrictions on the number of power banks passengers may carry on board, limiting it to a maximum of two per person. Last Friday, the International Civil Aviation Organization followed suit. This tightening of regulations affects not only the number of units each passenger can bring along, but also bans the use of power banks during flight. Airlines worldwide will be subject to these restrictions in the future, but some are already implementing the change. Taiwan’s flag carrier, China Airlines will start implementing the new rules on Tuesday, March 31. Let’s hear what people think.

Uses power banks
When I’m going abroad I bring along two power banks at most. I think having just one should be enough, since you can charge them when you aren’t flying.

The new rules won’t affect me, because I only bring one. I charge it every day as soon as I get to the hotel, so one is enough. I’d also be worried about bringing too many. I’m afraid they’d explode. The rule won’t affect me.

The ICAO and the IATA have binding international authority, so all airlines and security agencies will enforce these rules. The revisions should be completed within this year.
Although Taiwan is not a member of ICAO, the Civil Aeronautics Administration has traditionally followed ICAO standards. In addition to China Airlines, STARLUX Airlines will also follow the rule, though the implementation date has not yet been set. EVA Air and Tigerair Taiwan have stated they will comply with the Civil Aeronautics Administration’s regulations, which says it will formulate plans as soon as possible to align with international standards.
