Taiwanese company signs deal with US to develop COVID-19 vaccine

It’s a race against time to battle the Wuhan epidemic, and scientists around the world are searching for a vaccine against it. Taiwan’s Medigen Vaccine Biologics has announced a deal to develop a COVID-19 vaccine with the U.S.’ National Institutes of Health.

Under the agreement, the U.S. institution will supply candidate vaccine viruses and other materials that Medigen will use for vaccine development. Medigen said it hopes to start animal testing in the second quarter of 2020, and to start clinical trials by the end of the year. Meanwhile, Taiwan’s Addimmune is developing its own COVID-19 vaccine, with animal testing slated for May.

高端疫苗力拚在第二季完成動物試驗,下半年啟動人體試驗,盼能加速疫苗上市時程。至於從1月中就開始投入疫苗研發的國光生技,日前取得病毒的基因序列,現在已經做完基因合成,繼續向下開發,力拚今年五月,能夠進展到動物試驗。
