Badminton ace Chou Tien-chen shares battle with cancer

2024-02-05

Taiwanese badminton ace Chou Tien-chen won his first title of the year last Sunday at the Thailand Masters. After the match, he revealed a personal battle: He was diagnosed with early-stage colon cancer last year.

Chou said he’s since recovered after surgery. But the entire year of 2023 was a low point for him performance-wise, and this year started out badly, too. Prior to winning in Thailand, Chou had crashed out of the Malaysia Open, India Open, and Indonesia Masters. He said the Thailand title is a welcome boost to his confidence, and that he hopes to secure a spot in the Paris Olympics. After celebrating Spring Festival in Taiwan, Chou will head to Europe to compete in five tournaments, starting late February.
