Supermarket offers upscale dumplings for Dragon Boat

One business is eyeing the upscale Dragon Boat market with special zongzi rice dumplings made with imported ingredients. The Japanese shiitake, farm-raised pork and other quality ingredients are all clearly labeled with their origin and certifications to assure consumers they are eating well and safely.

This import business has made its own zongzi rice dumplings for the Dragon Boat season.

At a demonstration kitchen, a chef from a five-star hotel shows how to heat it up in six minutes. He also explains all the ingredients so consumers know what they’re eating.

I don’t just pay attention to one ingredient in a zongzi, I’ll look at the sum of its parts. The oil is of course very important, as is the meat.

One zongzi is made with imported Japanese shiitake and farm-raised pork, as well as sticky rice, peanuts and chestnut. Then there’s the sauce and seasonings, the origins and certifications of each explained.
