Japanese restaurant offers sea-fresh horned crabs for NT$35

As autumn arrives and crab season begins, discerning food lovers are willing to travel far and spend a fortune to enjoy rich crab roe. However, in Taipei City, you can find crabs at a surprisingly affordable price of just NT$35 each. This is thanks to a Japanese restaurant that operates its own fleet of 10 fishing boats. Two boats are dedicated to daily catches of horned crabs from Turtle Island in Yilan. The crabs are delivered directly to the restaurant.

The way to tell is by looking at the crab’s underside. If the shell is stretched and bulging, it means it’s packed with roe. The second way is to check the weight. The third method is to examine the back of the crab; it should not be translucent.

By keeping these key observation points in mind, you can select horned crabs with tender, chewy meat and rich, creamy roe. The vibrant orange-yellow crab roe is so appetizing that it makes your mouth water just by looking at it.

Try a different way of enjoying crabs! Top raw crabs with minced garlic and seasonings, then roast them until the delightful aroma fills the air. This method allows you to savor the freshest, sweetest taste of the sea. With crab season upon us, a Japanese restaurant in Taipei is offering horned crabs at a bargain price of under NT$50. These crabs, which are the size of your palm, have won over many food enthusiasts, turning them into loyal customers.

I’ve been eating here for about three years. As a bodybuilder, I always choose clean, healthy food for my diet, especially during competition periods. Whenever crab season comes around, I make sure to visit.

At other places, a single crab might sell for NT$100 to NT$200, but here you can enjoy a whole plate of crabs for less than NT$1,000, which is simply unreal. This box of sashimi, featuring tuna, swordfish and salmon, is neatly arranged and costs only about NT$10 per slice. The restaurant operates its own fleet of 10 fishing boats, delivering fresh catches daily from Turtle Island in Yilan and Keelung. By keeping takeout prices low, they’ve managed to achieve remarkable growth in their sales despite market conditions.

We have our own fishing boats, so when we catch fish, crabs or seasonal seafood, we often have a large supply when the season peaks. During the crab season, for instance, if the catch is good, we can sell over 10,000 crabs daily at very affordable prices.

In addition to autumn crabs, the Fisheries Agency has shared that recently, the price of milkfish is about 20% lower than last year. Seasonal sea bass, clams, and other seafood such as sweetfish, squid, cuttlefish and mackerel are available at affordable prices. There’s a delightful ocean for consumers to enjoy.

秋風起、蟹腳癢,懂吃蟹的饕客,為了嚐到肥美蟹膏,不惜遠赴產地,或一擲千金,但在台北市,居然也能吃到銅板價的螃蟹,一隻只要35元,原來是日料店,自己養了10艘漁船,其中兩艘,專門每天從宜蘭龜山島捕撈牛角蟹,直送餐廳。

“屁股這邊,這邊如果飽到撐開,表示說它裡面的膏已經很滿,第二個判斷方式是重量,還有第三個就是看它的背,這邊不要透光”

牢記觀察重點,就能挑出肉質嫩Q、有肥美蟹膏的牛角蟹,橘黃蟹黃,讓人看得食指大動。

換個吃法,生螃蟹鋪上蒜末和調料,烤到飄出陣陣香氣,就能吃到最鮮甜的海味,趁螃蟹季到來,有台北日料店,推出銅板價牛角蟹,不到50元,吃到手掌大小的螃蟹,讓饕客成為忠實顧客。

“大概吃三年了,我是健美選手,所以在比賽的時候,我都會吃這種乾淨的食物,有螃蟹的季節我也都會來”

外面一隻能賣到1百、2百元的螃蟹,這裡整盤吃到痛風,免千元,還有這盒生魚片,鮪魚、旗魚、鮭魚,整齊排列,一片算下來,只要10塊左右,店家自己養了10艘漁船,每天從宜蘭龜山島、基隆產地直送,壓低外帶售價,卻讓業績逆勢翻倍成長。

“我們自己有漁船在合作,所以我們在抓來的魚,或是螃蟹或當季海鮮的量,有時候產季到了,那個量一出來,就可以賣得很便宜,像螃蟹季旺季的時候,如果抓的狀況好,每天大概都有一萬多隻的銷售量”

除了秋蟹,漁業署也分享,近來不只虱目魚價格比去年便宜兩成,正值產季的鱸魚、文蛤,另外還有香魚、魷魚、透抽、秋刀魚,都是能平價入手,開心品嘗的海鮮選擇。
