Severe transport disruptions in Hualien as Kong-rey crashes by

Hualien is bearing the brunt of Typhoon Kong-rey with heavy disruptions to land and air transport. All flights scheduled on Thursday were cancelled, and so have all train services along the Eastern Trunk Line and the South Link Line. In Fuli, a local thoroughfare has flooded. Amid high water levels at rivers, Yuli Bridge and Hualien Bridge have been shut. Let’s hear from the mayor of Fuli.

Fuli has been experiencing stormy weather since the early morning, with wind speeds of at least 118km/h. Water levels at the Xiuguluan River have gone up, submerging thoroughfares. The water is so high it has reached some bridges, so as a preventative measures, we have closed them off.
On the Central Cross-Island Highway, a tree has fallen onto the road at the 73.5km mark and a landslide has blocked the road at the 96km mark. Over on the Suhua Highway, the section from Su’ao to Chongde became exit-only at 9 p.m. on Wednesday, and was later closed at 11 p.m. As for railway infrastructure, the western track on the Eastern Trunk Line has been blocked by a landslide at the 56km mark along the Chongde Section.

康芮颱風挾帶驚人風雨來襲，重創花蓮陸、空交通，31號航班全數取消，鐵路東部幹線、南迴線也全線停駛，公路部分富里鄉明里便道遭溪水沖毀，台9線玉里大橋，和花蓮大橋也因為溪水暴漲，緊急封閉。

“富里鄉從今天凌晨開始，狂風暴雨一直持續到今，你看這個風力大約有十二級風以上。剛才我們去看一下秀姑巒溪的整個水面，以及相關的便橋都已經，水整個淹沒到那個橋面的狀況，所以我們現在都實施預警性一個封閉當中”
台8線73.5公里處有樹木被吹倒，橫倒在馬路上，96公里處更出現土石坍方，導致道路中斷。在蘇花公路部分，蘇澳至崇德段30號晚間9點開始只出不進，11點進行預警性封閉，同樣受阻的還有台鐵西正線崇德段56公里處附近，被土石流淹沒。
