Damage and destruction at Hualien Fishing Harbor

Even before landfall, Typhoon Kong-rey dealt damage to Hualien, especially in the coast. At Hualien Fishing Harbor, moored vessels have been damaged after crashing into each other due to the waves. In some cases, the ropes used to secure them had not been able to withstand the strong winds. The worst damage was a rafter that completely capsized in the storm.
On Thursday morning, seawater overflowed onto Hualien Port, where boats had been tossed about by the waves all night. Despite the vessels having been secured the day before, the ropes had snapped in the storm. Worried that their boats might be blown to sea, fishermen led an inspection of the fasteners.

The wind and rain were incredibly strong, with waves continuously crashing in. After just one night, it wasn’t just the ropes that got damaged. This boat got wrecked, with a piece of the hull completely separating from the main body.

The rafts are quite old and might not be in use, so they remain docked in the harbor. When securing our boats, we often tie them to the wood of these rafts. If the ropes snap or the wood breaks and the boats drift away, it could affect other vessels. I came to inspect everything before dawn at around 4 a.m.
In addition, a rubber raft docked at the port capsized.
The ends of the vessel, which usually point up, are now submerged in the water. Fishermen documented the situation in the harbor while reporting themselves as safe.
With strong winds and heavy rain, the port was one of the first places to suffer damage before Typhoon Kong-rey’s landfall.

颱風康芮影響下，花蓮清晨就傳出災情，港邊有膠筏180度翻覆，所幸沒有造成傷亡，而花蓮漁港不少固定船隻的繩索和木頭，隨著海浪起伏，拉扯斷烈，漁民擔心船隻被風吹走，天來沒亮就趕緊來加強固定。
週四早上，花蓮港海水都已經溢出岸上，船隻一整夜跟著海浪載浮載沉，即便不少漁船前一天已經固定好，經過一夜風雨，繩索被扯斷，就擔心漁船被風浪吹走，漁民天還沒亮就總動員，趕緊再來巡視。

“後頭綁船的繩子都斷了。這次浪比較大啦。”
風雨實在太強，海浪不斷湧現，才經過一個晚上，不僅繩索受損，這輛船隻，木頭更直接斷裂，一片船身直接和船體分離。

“管筏比較老舊，可能沒在使用的管筏，就一樣停在港口，所以我們在綁船的時候，一樣會綁在它的木頭上面。繩子如果斷掉，木頭斷掉，船溜出來的話，會影響到其他船隻。我早上還沒有天亮，4點多就來巡視一遍了。”
不只船隻受損，還有停靠在港邊的膠筏，180度翻覆。
