Water dispensing station offers top-notch sea water

Water refilling pumps are relatively common in many parts of the island, providing clean drinking water to local residents. But do not ingest the water from one such dispenser in Kaohsiung’s Renwu District. That’s because the pump offers sea water, round the clock. The reason for the unusual setup may be better explained by its operator, who previously owned an aquarium shop. Let’s hear from him.

Aquarium shops close at night and during weekends and holidays, so if you need to get water at those times, or if something happens, it can be a big hassle. My dispenser is open 24 hours a day, and you can get sea water whenever you want. If you grow corals, you know they are very picky about the macroelements in the water such as the calcium and magnesium. The water must be free of pollutants otherwise the corals will die.
The operator works together with a breeding farm in Pingtung’s Jiadong Township. He draws seawater from the farm and takes it back to Kaohsiung, where it gets filtered three times. The top-notch water quality is a sigh of relief for coral growers, who want only the best for their delicate pets.

高雄仁武區的一處民宅牆面，有一台自助的天然海水加水站特別顯眼，上面寫著養魚專用。原來業者原本是開水族館，店家收掉之後，為了讓養殖玩家24小時都有海水可取用，特別在自家外頭設置海水加水站。

“水族館其實如果晚上休息，或者是假日沒有開的話，他們(玩家)有時候要換水，或者是有狀況的話，可能會很麻煩，那我的加水是24小時，隨時都可以供應。養珊瑚的話，它的水質的巨量元素，這些鈣、鎂，這些它很重視，所以水質的汙染，完全不能有汙染，要不然珊瑚是養不活。”
業者和屏東佳冬養殖場合作，先由養殖場抽取海水，加水車載到高雄後，海水總共三次過濾，水質清澈穩定，也讓珊瑚玩家，有不同取水選擇。
