23-year-old Pingtung Native Cheng Tsung-che has been promoted to the Major League Baseball. The Pittsburg Pirates announced the upgrade on social media, making Cheng the 18th Taiwanese to play in the MLB. His hometown is thrilled at the news, with even commissioner Chou Chun-mi celebrating his success. Having played in the minor leagues for five years now, it is a dream come true for Cheng.
The Pittsburgh Pirates have promoted Taiwanese baseball player Cheng Tsung-che to their major league squad. The team formally made the announcement on its official social media accounts.
Dressed in a camel jacket, he heads into the locker room to see his new jersey with the number 71. In his second year in junior high school, the Pingtung native had previously been part of the school team, which won Taiwan’s national championship. In 2019, he signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates, kicking off his career in the US. Starting off as a minor league player, he took part in major league spring training for the first time last year. He also joined this year, making 6 hits across 14 games played. His promotion to the major leagues has got people back at his alma mater over the moon.

The main thing is to give future students a goal to pursue. They know they can do it because they have such an honorary alumnus from school. They might push themselves more, in hopes of becoming he next Cheng Tsung-che.
Pingtung Commissioner Chou Chun-mi also congratulated Cheng on social media, for becoming the 18th Taiwanese to make it to the major leagues. She says his journey is truly inspiring.

With an outstanding defensive performance, Cheng has carved out a spot for himself in the major leagues. It’s a dream come true, and baseball fans can’t wait to see what he brings to the ballpark.

台灣23歲旅美棒球選手鄭宗哲，今天接獲球隊匹茲堡海盜隊的通知，正式升上大聯盟，他也成為台灣第18位升上大聯盟的球員，消息傳回老家屏東，縣長周春米也以大學姊身份恭喜他，提到鄭宗哲雖然身高不高，但力量、毅力驚人，拚了五年終於站上大聯盟，一路走來的棒球人生很勵志。
台灣旅美好手鄭宗哲，8號正式升上美國職棒大聯盟，球團海盜隊在官方社群平台，向球迷介紹這位台灣小將。
鄭宗哲換上大地色系服裝，前往球場報到，專屬的71號球衣、置物櫃也大公開。出身屏東的鄭宗哲，國二代表學校參賽棒球比賽，就拿下全國冠軍，2019年和美國職棒大聯盟匹茲堡海盜簽約，展開旅美之旅，從小聯盟球員出發，去年首度參加大聯盟春訓，今年再度參加，出賽14場，繳出6支安打的成績，如今正式升上大聯盟，消息傳回母校，大家都喜出望外。
