Train passenger left with bloody injury after stepping into floor light on platform

2025-06-24

On Tuesday morning, a passenger was left with a bloody injury during rush hour at the Taiwan Railway’s Nangang Station. She stepped right onto an embedded floor light that had a damaged cover, lost her footing and had her calf cut by metal pieces. The wound wouldn’t stop bleeding and she was immediately sent to ER.

Taiwan Railway believed the injury occurred possibly because the screws on the cover had come apart, which caused the woman to step right onto a hollow and leading to the injury. The train company has since completed a comprehensive check of the station’s facilities, and promised to cover all of the victim’s medical expenses. Following the incident, Taiwan Railway may have to conduct wider checks and improve their maintenance practices.
