2025-10-01

Have you ever ridden the Bong-Bong Train? This popular attraction in Yilan’s Taipingshan was shut down in July last year, due to damage from Typhoon Gaemi. Now, after more than a year of repairs, the train is up and running once again. On its reopening on Wednesday, some 200 visitors flocked to the attraction to take a ride on its historic track, which runs for 2.6km between Taipingshan and Maoxing Station. Let’s get their reaction.

I came here with my family just for this. The weather is so good lately, it’s so rare. And the scenery is stunning. I’m over the moon.

Last year, the heavy downpours from Typhoon Gaemi hollowed out the tracks of the Bong-Bong Train. After more than one year of repairs, we’re finally ready to reopen the full track once again.

The track that the Bong-Bong Train runs on was built during the Japanese colonial period, and was used to haul lumber from the mountains. The entire length of the railway has been preserved, and is now a popular tourist attraction, showing visitors the stunning views and history of Taipingshan.
