Famous eateries in Tainan shutter due to ASF measures

Food stalls and eateries specializing in pork dishes are closing all around Taiwan, due to the tough measures put in place to contain a suspected outbreak of African swine fever. In Tainan, many famous joints have already shuttered up, and the few that remain are relying on dwindling stock. Tourists visiting the food capital of Taiwan say they are disappointed to not have the chance to try the city’s famous eats.
A ladle of minced pork and a whole prawn goes right in the rice batter to create a classic Tainan bite. But these ba-wan from Mao Xiong Shrimp Meatball could soon sell out due to African swine fever.

Glutinous rice cake specialist Shijingjiu Dim Sum City serves up dishes with a generous scoop of braised pork and lots of fish floss. Nearby, Ah-tsai Dim Sum specializes in sausage, meat and shrimp rolls. They are also feeling the pressure.

Customers are delighted to be lucky enough to get one more bite while stocks last. At another legendary vermicelli joint, A Ming Zhu Xing, a sign at the door says “Go Taiwan!” while announcing that the shop will be shut until Nov. 5. Foodies hoping to get a bite were sorely disappointed.

We’re tourists, so we wanted to try it. It’s put a damper on our plans. Lots of restaurants are closed.
Another glutinous rice cake and braised pork rice specialist, Fu Sheng Xiao Shi Dian, is going on an 11-day break. At the door a sign sighs, “Hm… There’s nothing we can do.” Over in Pingtung, a closed shop is trying to lighten the mood with a sign saying, “The pigs are on holiday, and so are we.”

We didn’t know how to best explain that we’d be closed for so many days, so we decided to approach it with humor, and hopefully make people smile.
With closure after closure, food and snack vendors selling pork bites are up against a major challenge.

非洲豬瘟衝擊，台南許多小吃會用到豬肉，讓多間老店叫苦連天！「阿明豬心冬粉」宣布停營業到11月5日，以米糕、肉燥飯聞名的「福生小食店」也貼出「無奈」公告休息。還有庫存的老店，也說撐多久算多久，沒豬肉的話，只能被迫休息。
粉漿內， 放入肉燥和一整隻蝦仁，這是台南知名的茂雄蝦仁肉圓，碰上這波非洲豬瘟衝擊，業者說，快沒貨可賣了。

“還剩幾天而已，看三、四天應該…撐看看吧。”
另外，米糕是用一大杓的肉燥加上滿滿魚鬆的台南老店「石精臼點心城」；還有這間專賣香腸熟肉及蝦卷的老店「阿財點心」，都受到無豬可賣之苦。

“就是等於說像一些庫存賣完，就要休息了。”
有囤貨可賣，還能吃到美味的消費者，真的都是幸運兒！大名鼎鼎的「阿明豬心冬粉」在門口放上寫著台灣加油，因為豬瘟停營業到11月5號，不少饕客來撲空，難掩失望。

一個個停業公告，都道出台灣小吃必用豬肉店家的無奈心聲。
