
You can fry all sorts of ingredients on a teppanyaki griddle. Noodles, meat, veggies, seafood… the list is endless. But what about frying the menu itself? A video of a teppanyaki joint in Hsinchu has gone viral online, for getting its paper menus sizzling in oil right in front of diners. Apparently, it is a way for the chefs to confirm that customers are getting the food they ordered. Some netizens are outraged, saying that it’s really unhygienic, and could potentially lead to ink poisoning. Others simply find it funny that menus are on the menu. Let’s hear more.

If there are any violations, under Article 44 of the Food Safety and Sanitation Management Act, the operators will be ordered to make improvements by a deadline. If they fail to do so, fines start at NT$60,000.
In response to the sudden surge in attention, the restaurant has kept a low profile, and declined to comment on the matter. Though the controversial approach to kitchen management put some people off, others took a more light-hearted approach. Some netizens gave the menu dish creative names such as “pan-seared inked paper pulp.” Others even noted how the restaurant had seemed to add water to prevent the paper from burning or sticking to the griddle. It’s really all about the attention to detail.

面對質疑,店家低調不回應,不過網友回應的很熱烈,有人說別人是日式文字燒,我們有"台版文字燒",還有人直接幫料理,取名為"香煎油墨紙漿片",更有網友發現店家用心良苦,似乎擔心菜單焦掉,還加水避免沾鍋!
