NCCU to establish research center named after late Japan PM

On Sunday, Japanese media outlet the Sankei Shimbun reported that the first-ever Japanese studies center named after late Japanese Prime Minister Abe Shinzo will be established in Taiwan, at the National Chengchi University’s College of International Affairs. The mission of the research center will be to promote academic exchanges between Taiwan and Japan, and to nurture the next generation of Japanese Studies researchers. Let’s hear more.

The Abe Shinzo Center for Japanese Studies will be established under the NCCU’s College of International Affairs. The inauguration ceremony is slated for Sept. 21 this year, which is his date of birth. His widow will also be coming to Taiwan to attend the ceremony.

Abe Shinzo was a politician that had a deep understanding of Taiwan and a great liking for Taiwan. That’s why he proposed the Taiwan emergency saying as well as Indo-Pacific strategy that involves Taiwan while he was in office. For Abe Shinzo to include the US under the Indo-Pacific strategy shows that his political vision and skill are indeed more worthy of evaluation than those of ordinary Japanese politicians.
The future research center hopes to encourage more of the university’s faculty to conduct studies in the field, as well as design courses at the undergraduate level and hold workshops for highschoolers. It will also issue an award for those who’ve made significant contributions to promoting Taiwan-Japan exchanges, also named after Abe Shinzo.

日本媒體報導，全球第一個"安倍晉三研究中心"，將在台灣成立，設立於政大國際事務學院中，目的是促進台日學術交流，並培育年輕日本研究學者。

“安倍晉三是一個非常對台灣理解，而且是喜歡台灣的政治人物，所以他才會提出，台灣有事(等同於日本有事)，然後跟台灣有關的印太戰略，都是他任內推動的。安倍晉三能夠把美國，拉到印太戰略下，可見他的政治的戰略，跟政治的手腕，確實是比一般的日本政治人物，要來的更值得評價”
研究中心的未來目標，將鼓勵更多教授從事相關研究、並開設大學課程，也會針對高中生舉辦工作坊，另外，也會設立"安倍晉三台日交流貢獻獎"，表揚推動台日交流的"日本"友人。
