Kaohsiung farm recaptures meerkats after tunnel escape

Two meerkats at a farm in Kaohsiung recently tunneled underground, looking to escape from their enclosure. Luckily, the farm discovered their plan and met the creatures on the other side, ready to scoop them right back into their pen.
Just underneath this brick is a meerkat. He was trying to escape, but farm workers were standing guard at the end of his tunnel. One grabbed his behind while the other grabbed his tail before putting him right back into his enclosure.
Just after him was another meerkat looking to follow suit.
Seeing there was no way out, the meerkat obediently turned tail and went back. This failed prison break took place at a farm in Kaohsiung.

Two meerkats dug a tunnel out of their enclosure, then pushed their way past the sidewalk bricks. We caught the first one. That one belongs to our breeder. They raised him, so he’s comfortable with people and won’t bite. The second one I captured with a net.
The meerkats at this farm are lively. When they see people nearby, they’ll reach out toward them. Their enclosure is made of transparent glass and netting. But they naturally tunnel, and almost escaped by digging a route under the glass and through the bricks on the other side.

This is the second time something like this has happened. It’s in their nature to dig. They’re digging tunnels. Each one has different uses.

They’re cute from far away, but a little scary up close.
Meerkats are known for standing upright and looking around with their searching eyes. But if you look a little closer, you’ll find that most of the time, they’re tunneling. To accommodate this habit, the Shoushan Zoo in Kaohsiung has a large water pipe for them to use as their very own tunnel.

高雄農場2狐蒙挖地道 企圖逃獄園方成功逮捕

高雄市一間農場養的兩隻狐獴，像犯人挖起地道，想偷跑出飼養區，企圖逃獄，不過，先一步被園方發現，守在外面的洞口逮人，乖乖的被抓回去。
地磚掀開，鑽出一隻狐獴，企圖越獄，但園方人員早就守在洞口，一個人抓著屁股，另一個抓尾巴，將牠逮捕。
這時又有另一隻狐獴也跟著鑽出來。
眼看跑不掉，只好乖乖的又鑽回去。這起狐獴逃獄失敗案件，就發生在高雄一間農場。

"狐獴有兩隻，從展區裡面的土鑿出隧道，然後挖出來表面的磁磚。先抓第一隻狐獴。第一隻狐獴是我們飼育員的，從小養到大的，所以很親人不會咬她，那第二隻的話，就由我去用捕網子捕捉起來。"
園區裏的狐獴非常活潑好動，一看到有人靠近，就會伸出腳來。園方用透明玻璃和網子將牠們圍起來飼養，但狐獴有挖穴道的習性，竟然就從玻璃底下挖出一條地道，直通到外面的地磚，差點越獄成功。

"下面有一個洞，然後過去另外一邊，我們在這邊再用新的水泥補起來。"

"這是第二次發生這樣的情形。牠們本來習性就是會一直在挖洞，那可能就是在挖穴道，那每個穴道都是有自己的，不一樣的作用。"

"遠遠看蠻可愛的，但近看會害怕。"
伸長脖子，瞪著兩個圓圓的大眼睛，是狐獴給人的印象，但若仔細觀察，就會發現，更多時候牠們是埋在土堆裡挖啊挖。像高雄壽山動物園為了配合狐獴喜歡挖地道的習性，就特別放置大口徑的水管，打造專屬的狐獴隧道，讓牠們鑽個過癮。
