
A major event on the tech calendar, Hon Hai Tech Day is to be held on Nov. 21 this year. The tech giant is to showcase a new electric vehicle and AI server developed in collaboration with Nvidia. But first, it took FTV on a tour of Taiwan’s first-ever trapped-ion quantum computing laboratory, which promises to produce a quantum computer within five years. Let’s take a look at their progress.
Quantum computers are considered one of the next major technological developments. As a “leader in precision manufacturing,” Hon Hai is ahead of the game.

Hon Hai brought us here for a peek at Taiwan’s first quantum computing R&D lab established through industry investment. Next to me is Hon Hai’s trapped-ion system. By manipulating electromagnetic fields, lasers, and vacuums, ions can be confined to store qubits, forming the basis of a quantum computer.
The pearls arranged like a necklace on the screen are captured ions. Once the technology matures, it will pave the way for quantum computing capable of meeting the future computing demands that current models and hardware are unable to handle.

Quantum superposition and quantum entanglement are the underlying physical rules that will enable quantum computing to accelerate computation.
Hon Hai showcased its research findings ahead of its Tech Day event. Within five years, it aims to build a prototype general-purpose quantum computer with 5 to 10 qubits.
In addition to trapped-ion computing, Hon Hai Tech Day will also showcase its latest AI server made with Nvidia, the GB300, as well as a new electric vehicle to the excitement of other industry players and investors alike.

螢幕上一顆顆宛如珍珠項鍊排列的,就是捕捉到的離子。技術成熟後,為未來量子電腦鋪路。因為以現在傳統電腦的運算模式和硬體,恐怕無法滿足未來的算力需求。

鴻海搶在科技日登場前,展示研究成果,目標在五年內,打造一台5到10個量子位元的通用型量子電腦原型機。
除了離子阱系統,科技日也會展示,替輝達生產的最新AI伺服器GB300,以及新款電動車,吸引產業和投資人關注。
