Streets of Su’ao become furniture graveyard after heavy flooding

The floodwaters have receded in Su’ao, but what’s left behind looks like a disaster zone. Piles of waterlogged furniture now line the streets, turning entire neighborhoods into makeshift dumps. Residents fear that if heavy rain strikes again, the debris could trigger another wave of flooding. While many people have called to inquire about helping clean up, officials say it’s safer to let the heavy machinery do the work for now.
Waterlogged sofas, a broken fridge… Ruined furniture piles up outside. Zhongyuan Street has become a dump and locals worry about a second flood.

If it pours again, all that stuff will come floating down. I asked the local township office and the county government to clear all the debris to prevent a second disaster.
An excavator removes the debris, but it’s a slow process. Locals have been sweeping for two days, and they’re only halfway done.

We cleaned about 60% of it. It’s not terrible this time, last time was worse.
Zhongshan road is also wrecked. Things lie strewn on the mud. Soldiers are helping to move out box after box of belongings outside.
The trash collection truck barely makes a dent on the debris. If you’re wondering whether to pick up a shovel go to Su’ao to help, local authorities say there’s no need for now.

Some people have called, eager to help out. But the roads here aren’t very wide, so we’re using machinery to help locals with the cleanup. They bring the ruined furniture out, and we take it away. There’s no need for “shovel superheroes” to come for now.
Authorities say the cleanup of all the spoiled furniture is best left to heavy machinery for now.

蘇澳大淹水，雖然水退了，不過，家具、家當全泡水，居民把泡水家具搬出來，讓整條中原街變成垃圾街，宛如光復鄉2.0。當地居民呼籲，趕快清理，否則萬一大雨再來，垃圾流到下游，恐將造成二次災害，不少熱心民眾也打電話到公所，希望幫忙，不過，鎮公所表示，由於道路比較小，目前仍以重機具清理為主。
泡水的沙發、冰箱全都搬出來，堆得像小山，不光是這樣，整條中原街變成垃圾街，居民擔心，如果大雨再來，恐怕會有二次災害。

“如果再下大雨，這些漂流這些雜七雜八的東西，會流到下面去。我請鎮公所、縣政府人員，趕快把我們上游這個東西清掉，不然會有二次災害。”
怪手出動，但怎麼清、還是清不完，居民也拿出刷子，但掃了兩天，才掃了一半。

“現在(清)差不多60%，這次還好，上一次比較厲害。”
中山路也很慘，家當全都泡在泥水裡，還要靠國軍幫忙，一箱箱搬出來，才能開始整理家園。
垃圾車也出動，但跟不上丟的速度，鏟子超人也蠢蠢欲動，希望來幫忙，不過蘇澳鎮公所呼籲，鏟子超人先別來。

“(民眾)打電話到公所，希望他們願意來協助，不過因為目前我們這裡很多的交通的道路也不是很寬敞，所以我們目前還是以這個機具進入，先協助民眾清理，他們把淹水的這些家具，鏟子超人先這個時候還不需要。”
蘇澳道路狹小，目前先讓重機具，清除大型家具，只能請鏟子超人再等等。
