Trucks overloaded with bamboo and cars turn heads in Nantou

2026-01-12

Two dangerously overloaded trucks spotted in Nantou got fellow road users turning their heads, and fearing for their safety. One of the trucks was found carrying a pile of bamboo longer and taller than the vehicle itself, swinging dangerously at every corner in downtown Zhushan. But perhaps even more shocking was a tow truck carrying three cars stacked on top of each other like a Jenga tower, brushing past power lines and tree branches.

They can’t believe their eyes as the tow truck ahead carries three cars piled on top of each other, and a fourth one towed at the back.

- They are piled so high!

The cars were almost vertical with the front down, forming an extremely tall load, way beyond any normal clearances. At intersections, it came dangerously close to utility poles and trees. The bumpy road made it all the more terrifying.

- It’s going to hit the power line!

Motorists had to be extra careful, keeping as much distance as possible, as the truck blocked their line of vision.

And that wasn’t the only truck performing stunts. Over in Zhushan, another truck turned heads with a huge load of bamboo stacked higher and longer than the vehicle itself. Even worse, the tall mound of bamboo swung from side to side during turns. Fellow road users dared not get close, fearing that the truck could tip over at any moment.

Police officer
The width of the load must not exceed the width of the vehicle, and it can’t be taller than 4m from the ground for large vehicles or 2.85m for small vehicles.

The police says that the vehicles were circulating illegally, and putting road users in danger. They could face fines of between NT$3,000 and NT$18,000, be asked to correct the violations or be prohibited from driving.
