It’s been a week since Air Force Pilot Hsin Po-i went missing off the coast of Hualien while piloting an F-16V fighter jet during a night training mission. On Monday, the Minister of National Defense reported on the latest progress on the search for the aircraft’s black box. An intermittent signal has been detected, and once sea conditions improve, vessels will be dispatched for further operations.
The Navy and the Coast Guard have each deployed 62 vessels. And 16 drones have been dispatched on the retrieval mission. The search is focused on the coast of Hualien and Taitung. Meanwhile, Air Force Chief of Staff Lee Ching-jan confirmed that the plane involved in the crash experienced a malfunction two days before the incident. It was a fault with the GPS and inertial navigation system, which will be a key focus in the investigation.
