It’s always annoying when your luggage gets lost at the airport, but it’s even worse if you’re an elite athlete about to go to a competition. That’s what happened to top Taiwan table tennis player Cheng I-ching on Sunday. She flew to Japan for the WTT Champions Yokohama, only to find that her luggage, containing her competition equipment, had been mistakenly taken by another passenger. Her coach immediately went online to ask for help on social media. Let’s hear more.

I am in Laos, so when I saw what happened, I called I-ching. I asked her where her luggage went missing. She said at Haneda Airport. But we didn’t talk after.

If there’s staff at the carousel, you can ask them for help. Or you can contact the counter for your airline at the luggage claim area. They can help you with it. Putting stickers on your luggage makes it more recognizable.
Fortunately, Cheng had a good announcement on Monday on Instagram, saying that she got her luggage back. She also thanked Threads users for helping her spread the word, and for the media for covering the story. She reminded travelers to double-check the tags on the suitcases before taking them away to avoid any mix-ups. But if the bags go missing, it’s best to contact the airline immediately.
