Usagi weakens to tropical storm landfall expected Saturday noon

Typhoon Usagi has been downgraded into a tropical storm, but it’s still tracking toward Taiwan. The Central Weather Administration expects the storm circle to reach Taiwan in the early hours of Friday and its eye could make landfall in Southern Taiwan around midday on Saturday. Let’s hear from a forecaster.

Typhoon models from all around the world have finally converged into one predicted path. The storm is expected to move north-northwest before veering northeast. The storm circle will start affecting Taiwan tonight, and the eye of the storm is expected to make landfall in the southernmost tip of Taiwan at around midday on Saturday.

Taitung and Pingtung are expected to see the heaviest rainfall, which could last until the early hours of Saturday. Extremely heavy rains are expected in southern Taiwan. The Henchun Peninsula and mountainous areas of Taitung could receive up to 340mm of rain, while mountainous areas in Pingtung could see almost 250mm.

天兔颱風逐漸逼近,強度已經減弱為輕度颱風,不過,氣象署預估,天兔暴風圈深夜就會觸陸,颱風中心最快明天中午前後,將在台灣南端陸地登陸。

“全世界對颱風預報的指引,總算趨於一致了,預估就是未來還是先往北北西,之後再往東北的方向移動,暴風圈依舊在今天深夜,開始影響我們,但至於颱風中心,是有可能在明天中午前後,在南端的陸地登陸”

台東、屏東都出現降雨,週五下半天到週六清晨,將是降雨最劇烈的時候,氣象署提醒,恆春半島、台東山區,預估雨量可能達到200-340毫米,屏東山區也逼近250毫米,都達到豪雨的等級,提醒民眾留意。
