Business leaders celebrate NTU’s 96th anniversary

National Taiwan University on Friday held its 96th anniversary ceremony. Honorary doctorate holder Morris Chang, the founder of TSMC, was among the guests. He told reporters that an opening ceremony for a new TSMC plant in Arizona, which had been expected for December, would not be held. There is speculation this is related to the election of US President Donald Trump. Alongside Chang were the brothers, Richard and Daniel Tsai, from the Fubon Group. Daniel Tsai, the group’s chairperson, was awarded an honorary doctorate in law. Alumni at the ceremony also included Quanta founder, Barry Lam.
Following TSMC’s Sports Day, company founder Morris Chang was in front of the cameras again.
Faced with repeated questions from reporters, Chang categorically stated that TSMC would not hold an opening ceremony for its new US plant. It had earlier been reported that plans to hold an opening ceremony for TSMC’s new plant in the US in December could change owing to the election of US President Donald Trump.
Brothers Richard Tsai and Daniel Tsai of the Fubon Group attended the 96th anniversary celebrations of their alma mater. Daniel Tsai, the group’s chairman, was awarded an honorary doctorate in law from National Taiwan University and released a video as a prelude, where he commemorated his late father, Tsai Wan-tsai, the founder of the Fubon Group.

My father was very traditional and strict. When I was a child, I felt that my father was unfair to me, but after he passed away, I then realized that at the time he actually had higher expectations of me.
The late Fubon Group founder Tsai Wan-tsai, like Daniel Tsai, was an alumnus of National Taiwan University’s College of Law. When Daniel Tsai delivered his speech, he specifically mentioned his father’s influence on him.

If my father had not passed away, he would have been still a College of Law graduate and would have been even more qualified than me to be awarded an honorary doctorate in law. I will dedicate this honor to him and thank him for bringing me, at that time a young and fun-loving kid, to National Taiwan University.
As he emotionally thanked his father for his guidance, friends and entrepreneurs were lined up in the audience to witness Daniel Tsai’s moment of glory. The total net worth of all those present exceeded NT$1 trillion, making the National Taiwan University anniversary ceremony a focus of public attention.

台積電美國廠12月啟用典禮取消? 張忠謀:大概不會辦了

台灣大學今天盛大舉辦創校96週年校慶活動！特別邀請名譽博士張忠謀和富邦蔡家兄弟倆，富邦集團董座蔡明忠獲頒台大法學名譽博士，廣達總裁林百里等校友齊聚一堂，身價破兆，不過張忠謀被問到台積電美廠12月的啟用典禮是否真的生變，他也首度在鏡頭前回應，說「大概是不會辦了」。
繼台積電運動會後，創辦人張忠謀再度現身鏡頭前。
面對記者再三確認，張忠謀斬釘截鐵，直說，台積電美廠不會辦典禮，日前傳出因為美國新任總統川普上任，台積電12月美國廠的啟用典禮恐怕生變。
但儘管如此，富邦蔡家兄弟倆一起出席母校創校96周年校慶典禮，其中富邦集團董座蔡明忠，獲頒今年台大法學名譽博士學位，更在前導影片緬懷他的父親。

“我父親就是一個非常傳統的嚴父，小時候就覺得說，我父親對我特別不公平，他過世以後，我才知道他當時其實是，對我有更高的期待”
富邦集團創辦人蔡萬才，同樣是台大法律系校友，是兒子蔡明忠的學長，蔡明忠致詞時，特別提到父親對他的影響。

“如果我的父親沒有辭世，同樣也是法律系畢業的他，比我還更有資格，能夠獲頒名譽法學博士的學位，我將這一份榮耀獻給他，謝謝他當年把年少貪玩的我，帶回台大”
感性謝謝父親當年的教誨，好友企業家排排座，見證蔡明忠的榮耀時刻，算一算列席者身價超過一兆新台幣，也讓台大校慶，成為各界焦點。
