Hundreds of people hoping to get a free snack were left disappointed at National Taiwan University on Sunday, after an online giveaway turned out to be a sham. Online, a person claiming to be student at NTU’s Atmospheric Sciences Department had promised free fried chicken and boba handouts for failing to predict work cancelations from last week’s typhoon. But on Monday, two real NTU alumni decided to make up for the let-down to restore the reputation of their alma mater.
One of the donors is a graduate of NTU’s Geography Department, and he gave out 350 cups of boba at the second floor of Taipei Main Station at noon on Monday. More than 100 people showed up to collect the drink, completely cramming the corridor. Later in the afternoon, a graduate from the Electrical Engineering Department gave out 400 servings of fried chicken on campus. The line to collect a serving stretched for more than 100m, prompting security guards to head over to keep things in order.
