Hotels use local ingredients to create Hualien delicacies

The earthquake on April 3 significantly impacted Hualien, causing losses of over NT$8 billion in the tourism industry. To revitalize Hualien’s economy, some hotels are incorporating local ingredients into their fare to attract more visitors to the area. The offerings include Hualien’s famous peeled chili peppers, taro, and red glutinous rice.

Tender bass is crafted into fish rolls. It is adorned with Hualien’s peeled chili peppers to enhance the fish’s sweetness. Next, enjoy duck paired with apples, where peeled chili peppers bring all the flavors together beautifully.

Searing Matsusaka pork over high heat releases its rich aroma. Then, add Hualien’s peeled chili peppers to unleash their sweet and spicy flavors.

By bringing together various industries, we can enhance Hualien’s visibility and promote local agricultural products. This collaboration will help ensure that these products can steadily reach cities and counties across Taiwan.

Nanhua taro is also featured in dishes, and the local red glutinous rice is wrapped in lotus leaf sticky rice. The April 3 earthquake severely impacted Hualien, causing an 80% decline in visitors and losses exceeding NT$8 billion. By incorporating local ingredients into their menus, hotels hope to successfully promote Hualien’s products to other cities.

There are some subsidies from the transport ministry and the Tourism Administration, but running our accommodation has been very challenging. During the summer vacation period, we saw occupancy rates of around 40%, and at other times, it hovers at around 30%.

Hualien’s occupancy rates remain low, and there is hope that upcoming events will encourage more domestic tourists to visit Hualien.

0403地震重創花蓮,觀光產業損失超過80億以上,為了活絡花蓮經濟,有飯店採購花蓮的剝皮辣椒、芋頭、紅糯米等入菜,希望帶動國人到花蓮觀光。

軟嫩鱸魚做成鱸魚捲,用花蓮的剝皮辣椒點綴,襯托鱸魚清甜。再來品嚐鴨肉,搭配蘋果,透過剝皮辣椒融合所有風味。

大火爆香,松阪豬下鍋,來回煸出香氣。就能加入剝皮辣椒,讓甜辣滋味釋放。

南華芋頭也入菜,當地的紅糯米包進荷葉粽。403地震重創花蓮,客人衰退八成,損失80億以上,飯店把花蓮食材入菜,就是希望讓當地物產可以順利銷到外縣市。

“有所謂的交通部、觀光署的一些補助,那我們其實真的在整個住房經營上面,是非常辛苦。那除了暑假期間有到四成左右,那其餘的時間大概都是落在三成左右”

花蓮住房率低迷,也期盼活動能帶動國人到花蓮觀光。
