China receives ‘hundreds’ of Taiwan separatism reports from public

China’s Taiwan Affairs Office recently set up a mailbox for the public to report any so-called “diehard Taiwan secessionists.” At a press conference on Wednesday, spokesperson Chen Binhua said that, already, hundreds of reports have been received. Taiwanese officials say the number of reports is bound to increase. Let’s hear from both sides of the strait.

We will work together with the relevant government agencies to verify and identify the reports. We are determined to end all plots for Taiwan independence and to punish any diehard separatists who aim to split up our nation and commit crimes of secession.

A similar hotline was set up for Hong Kong, and it received 750,000 reports in just four years. Many of the reports might actually have nothing to do with whether the accused supports independence. Sometimes they stem from business disputes between upstream and downstream suppliers, or from personal grievances. This implicates innocent people in something they have nothing to do with. During the Anti-Rightist Campaign started by Mao Zedong in 1957, Mao said there were just 4,000 rightists in the whole country. In the end, 550,000 people were persecuted as rightists. The whole matter was magnified. The Mainland Affairs Council would like to remind everyone to exercise caution when visiting the other side of the strait.
The Taiwan Affairs Office has released a list of diehard Taiwan separatists, most of whom are politicians from the DPP, including Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim and lawmakers Puma Shen and Wang Ting-yu.

中國國台辦發言人陳斌華週三在記者會稱，設立「台獨頑固分子」的舉報信箱後，目前已收到數百條的舉報線索。對此，陸委會副主委暨發言人梁文傑強調，相信未來可能更多，因為這種風潮一旦鼓動起來，很難阻止。

“對於群眾舉報，我們會會同有關部門，進行認真核查甄別。粉碎一切台獨分裂圖謀的意志，將繼續依法懲治台獨頑固份子分裂國家、煽動分裂國家犯罪。”

“香港它設了這樣的一個專線，4年之內有75萬條舉報，很多它可能跟真正你獨不獨沒有關係，它可能是因為上下游廠商之間的糾紛，也可能是因為私怨，被無辜牽連的狀況，我們相信都會有。在1957中共搞反右運動，剛開始的時候，毛澤東說，只有全國大概有4千個右派，結果到最後是55萬人被打成右派，這個就是擴大化。陸委會這邊也要慎重提醒大家，到大陸還是要特別注意。”
國台辦網站公布「台獨頑固分子」，已被懲戒名單，幾乎都是民進黨的政治人物，包含副總統蕭美琴、立委沈伯洋、王定宇等等。
