Annual shopping extravaganza kicks off Oct. 24 in Taichung
The 2024 Taichung Shopping Festival will kick off on Oct. 24 and run until Dec. 25, just in time for the year-end holiday season. The sixth edition of the shopping extravaganza is setting its sights beyond Taiwan’s borders, with endorsements from the representatives of Japan, Belgium and Singapore in Taiwan. It’s not just any spending spree: the grand prize of the event is a property worth NT$10 million, and everyone regardless of nationality is eligible to win.
Together with the representatives of Belgium and Singapore on her either side, Taichung Mayor Lu Shiow-yen dances along to the theme music. This is the presser for the 2024 Taichung Shopping Festival, which has been a boon to the local economy every year. Now, for the sixth edition, Taichung is reaching out to the rest of the world, having even invited foreign representatives in Taiwan for endorsement.
The de facto ambassadors of Japan, Belgium and Singapore are the spokespersons this year, promoting delicacies from their home countries. In the past five editions, the festival created combined revenue of over NT$100 billion. This time, Taichung is looking to create a new record with enticing lucky draws, which are open to everyone, including international visitors. The biggest prize, as in previous years, is a property in the city.

The grand prize is a property worth NT$10 million, and the smallest are cash prizes of NT$3,000 every day. We welcome everyone, not just international travelers, because that way we can learn more about foreign cultures. Taichung is filled with foreign cultures, that’s what characterizes us. This year’s edition is really special, it’s probably the first time in the ROC’s history that we’ve invited so many diplomatic representatives to feature in the promotional video, and also serve as event ambassadors.
With cash prizes every single day, and even bigger cash prizes every week, shoppers can sure win big. This year’s shopping festival will be even bigger and more international, with over 10,000 participating businesses offering discounts of their own of up to 50% off. It’ll sure make an exciting shopping spree!
